Time to drop a few.

It's been almost 3 months since we welcomed Avery into the family. She has been a great fit and the other kids love her to bits. Now it's time for me to get back into shape. I have 12 pounds left to be where I was before I got pregnant. Not to bad seeing as I gained over 40lbs. We loved to eat. :)

This time around I am doing weight watchers again, but get some help with still nursing Avery. I am aiming to be around 120lbs this time. That means a total of 20 pounds to go. I know it will take hard work but it will be so worth it. I start soccer again in a week which helped shed the pounds before. I can't wait, it not only helped drop the weight but did wonders for my mental state. I am thinking of adding a fitness class into the mix too, but we will see, these kids keep me pretty busy.

I will check in next week with my weight loss progress and my thoughts and feelings of how the week went. See you next week with some great progress.

12 Weeks down...

It has been 7 weeks since we found out we were going to have another little one in the house. It was so surreal the day we found out. I really didn't think the test was going to be positive but sure enough there it was that second line. I cried! Then I got to go out and tell Christian and Piper that Mommy had a baby in her belly. Christian was excited and knew what that meant since he was old enough when I got pregnant with Piper. Piper on the other hand was hilarious she asked if I had eaten the baby? I mean how else did I get it into my belly? Cj was at school so I had to wait to tell him. I called Curtis at work to tell him the news kinda nervous what his reaction would be. We had planned on trying in June but I guess the universe had other plans. Of coarse Curtis was in an all day training and didn't answer his phone. I couldn't wait till that night , I was to excited! He finally called me and shocked the living daylights out of me. He was so excited and I could hear how big his smile was. That melted my heart. He has been such an amazing dad with our first three I just couldn't wait to see him with this one. I am one lucky girl!!

The first few weeks went by with no problems but of coarse like with all  my pregnancies the sickness reared it's ugly head at about week 7. I was expecting to be sick like i was with Piper but to my surprise this has been pretty easy. I have been sick but not everyday all day long. The worst has been the constant nauseated feeling but I can usually work past that. My belly popped out around 8 weeks to my surprise. But I absolutely love being pregnant and all that comes with it.

week 8
We had our first Midwife apt with Sherri at week 9. I have to say this was probably the thing I have been looking forward to the most. I love the care and attention you get from a midwife. They don't treat you like a number. They want to know about every aspect of your life. It took a few minutes because someone was playing hide n seek, but we got to hear the heartbeat. A strong 179 beats per minute. That sound can cheer you up no matter how bad the mood. To know that the little peanut that has gone unnoticed for so many weeks is healthy inside you is an amazing feeling.

12 weeks
We have another apt with Sherri in a couple weeks and in the mean time we continue to pack with the hopes that we will be moving soon. Now the biggest internal battle I'm having is whether to find out the sex of the baby or not. To start this pregnancy I was going to wait and be surprised. As the weeks tick past and we get closer to that 20 week mark there is an internal battle going on whether to find out or not. We will see which one wins out in 8 more weeks. Stay tuned.

Another month down and a little less of me!

It's been a month since I last posted and there has been some changes. Some I didn't know were so drastic  until just recently. So here we go....... When I left you after the New Year I weighed in at 139.4. Since then I have made constant progress and am thrilled. I hit my 5% and 10% body weight loss goals. And as of friday I weighted in at 134.4. To put this into perspective I haven't seen this weight since I was pregnant with Christian. Over 7 yrs ago the scale read those numbers. I am only 9 lbs away from my goal weight and am so excited to continuously watch the scale go down.

There was another huge change that I didn't even know till last night. Curtis and I had purchased a weight watchers scale back in the summer of 2011 sometime. It reads your BMI, body fat, body mass, and other fun things. When we bought the scale we both got on and got our numbers. I knew mine were bad but I didn't realize how bad. For my age your BMI should be 20-25. When I started I was 28.9, as of last night i am now
25.6. Almost to the healthy area, yeah for me!!!! Also my body fat was 50.9. (HOLY SHIT!!!! Did I really just read that right?) Last night it was 30. The normal healthy range for my age is 19-29, so again almost there. I am just blown away every time I sit back and look at the whole picture not just the weight loss. I never knew how bad i really was. I knew I wasn't happy with what I saw in the mirror or how my clothes fit. But I didn't know my insides were not happy too.

Today I am a happier and healthier me. It has taken a lot of work but i don't regret a second of this journey. I have lost 17.3lbs, 14.8 inches, and a crap load of fat! All this change happened because I made a choice to put me first. I said yes to playing soccer and yes to making me a priority. I am cooking healthier food every night, have more energy, and am a happier person all around. I still have my days when chocolate beats out veggies and french fries keep me sane. But after those moments, which are few and far between now a days, I get back to my plan and keep chug chug chugging along.

My goal now that I am getting closer to my ideal weight is to start building muscle. I know there is going to be a point when the weight loss slows down till I get the muscle in there to help burn it away. The issue I am having is carving out the time to get to the gym to work out. My days are so crazy with kids going to school at 2 different times, cooking dinner, helping with homework, cleaning house, and my full time referee job. I know if I try hard I can get it done but god help me I just cant figure it out right now. I am doing a challenge for the month of Feb. that I found on my new favorite web site, Pinterest. I am doing sit ups, push ups and planks every day. And everyday the number of each increases. At the end of Feb I will be doing 100sit ups, 25 push ups, and a 2 min plank. It doesn't take much time to do it and it makes me feel a little stronger every day.

So there you have it. That is the last month wrapped up in a pretty little bow. Looking forward there is a lot coming up in this house hold. April will bring my second half marathon (hopefully) in Salt Lake. In May/June we will start trying to expand our little family by 1 more. Curtis and I have an AMAZING vacation coming up in August to San Francisco. And before the end of the year we will hopefully be in a bigger house (FINALLY!!!). I am really really looking forward to all the new stages in my life. I am very blessed and try to remind myself of that on a daily basis. Here is to a healthier and happier US!!!

Welcome 2012 and a new me!!

I took almost a month off from posting and now i'm back. I also took about 3 weeks off of Weight Watchers. I didn't want to feel super guilty for eating all the yummy's that come along with the holidays. However to my surprise even without logging everything I put in my face I only gained 1 pound since the beginning of Dec. Last week I weighed and I as actually down from my last post but new years screwed me and I was back up to 139.4. But I am totally OK with it this is part of the weight loss game. I know by next week I will be back down to where i was but hopefully even lower. I have also started cooking again this week and didn't realize how much i missed it.

With the beginning of the year also comes training for the Salt Lake half marathon. I have hit the road twice this week and am LOVING it!!! The freedom of being out in the cool air and forgetting about your duties as a Mom and a Wife is so therapeutic. It took me some time to realize how important a little me time is. I am a happier and calmer person when I get to put me first for a little while. The half marathon is in April and my goal is to beat last year's time of 2hrs 32min. I just remember the feeling I got when I crossed the finish line it ranked up there with Piper's birth. I was so amazed and proud of  myself for finishing something I never thought was possible. I can't wait to show up at the start line wearing my Snuggie (thanks Dooce). I am still playing indoor soccer and look forward to Monday night all week long. The ladies that I get to spend an hour with once a week are amazing. They make me laugh no matter how I feel when I show up at the game. I am a better person for spending time with all of you.

So now onto what this new year will bring, or at least what I hope to accomplish during it. I am hoping that before the end of this year we will be in a bigger house. We have soooo outgrown our little starter home. I am also hoping to be pregnant with our 4th (yes i know i'm crazy) before to long. I would already be there but the other half of this equation is taking a little longer to convince. I am trying to be a more patient person especially with the kids. I WILL be down to my perfect weight before the summer (as long as i'm not knocked up). We will be spending more time together as a family with a summer trip planned with the Hanor's. Can't frickin wait for that!! Curtis and I will be doing more races hopefully this year. We already have 2 planned. We will get our bills payed down so the thought of another kid and a bigger house wont be so traumatic for Curtis. I will continue to put me first so that the rest of the family will be happier.

I think that just about sums it up. 2011 was a great year and I accomplished a lot but 2012 will be AMAZING!! I wish all of my family and friends an amazing New Year also. May all your dreams come true.

3 Months of greatness!

This week marked the 3 month mark on Weight watchers. I am thrilled with all that I have accomplished. This has been a trying week for me. We had to say good bye to our loving Wally boy. After almost 12 years of a great life together it was time to send him home. He was an amazing dog and will always be missed. Needless to say I was terrified what the scale would say after that traumatic decision. Stress can derail your diet and weight loss. Today was weigh in day and I was really really nervous to step on.

My official weight for this week is 138.9. That was a loss of 2.3 lbs. YEAH!!!!!!! First, I finally broke the 141 mark but to lose 2 lbs total. Holy crap balls this is great! I am almost in Virgin territory. Anything the scale says from here on out I haven't seen since I was pregnant with Christian. I weighed 132lbs when I found out I was expecting him. So I have been carrying all this around for almost 6yrs, and let me tell you I am ready to be rid of it.

On top of weighing in today I also took my measurements. This was a great ego booster for me. I see the scale going down but I don't necessarily see the physical change. Total I have lost 12.8 inches as of today. I have lost 4.5 in on my waist alone, and 3.5 on my hips. This I can tell every time I slip on my favorite size 6 skinny jeans and still be able to breath.

I know i'm on the right path and I know there are still going to be hurdles to get over but I am up for it. My goal to be down 6 more pounds by Christmas is looking more attainable now. I can't wait to get down to my goal weight and be comfortable in my skin. Stay tuned and see what else comes my way.

See you on the skinnier side!!

Week 10 & 11 with a little turkey thrown in.

We went out of town last Thursday for a family filled Turkey day. I did my weigh in but did not have time to write about it. So here we go. Week 10's weigh in was 141.2 which was down .3lbs from the week before. I will take it!! That weigh in was followed up by 4 days of eating anything and everything in my face. It was sooooo much fun and tasty. We had a great time with all my family there except my Brother and his family. I love watching all the kids playing together. When I was growing up we didn't live near relatives so it is so rewarding to see my kids making memories with their cousins. It is always fun to make  memories up at the cabin. We do things that a lot of adults probably wouldn't try. Curtis, the boys, Jason, and his boys all went dirt surfing while we were supposed to be shooting. I don't think Amanda and I have ever laughed that hard.

All of that leads me to week 11. I was so very very afraid of what the scale would say. On Monday I got back to the program and have been very very strict with myself. I got on the scale and to  my surprise it read 141.1lbs. I was thrilled to say the least. I expected a weight gain for sure after those wonderful 4 days. It is so reassuring to  know that when I hit my goal weight I will be able to have days that I eat whatever I want and it wont effect all my hard work. Now all I want is to break the 141 mark. I have been stuck here for a month now. It is taking a lot of work to lose this whole pound.

I have made a promise to myself that for the next 3 weeks until Christmas I will not be cheating in anyway. Everything will be tracked and the bad habits I have been trying to kick need to stay in the past. In the next 3 weeks I am hoping to get very close to my 20lb weight loss goal. Fingers crossed I can accomplish this little goal. That is all for now. See you next week!!

Week 9 and i'm stuck!

After hitting a huge milestone for me last week I kinda treated myself. Now I am paying the price. I went out of town last weekend with 2 girlfriends. We drove 970 miles in 36hrs. It was a whirlwind trip but I had a great time. We ate good food and snacked while in the car (which was a lot). Now I can not get the scale to budge.   : (

I weighed in yesterday and didn't like what the scale said so I went to the gym, watched what I ate, and jumped back on this morning. No bueno!! Stupid scale still reads EXACTLY the same. My official weight for this week is 142.5. It is only a .6lb increase but an increase none the less. I'm hoping that after getting back on the plan, next week will show a big number. Weigh in day lands on the day before thanksgiving. Thank GOD!! That gives me a week after turkey day to work it all off again before having to face the scale.

The fight I was having in my own head was really quite entertaining this week. I seriously was thinking about not posting so no one knew I had gained. One of those arguments was "It's only .6 lbs no one needs to know. It's not even a whole pound..." But in the end the good side won out and reminded me that when I started this journey I was going to be 100% honest no matter if it's good or bad. So please don't judge me to hard.... I am trying harder than I have ever before.

I mentioned earlier that i had gone to the gym this week. It was AMAZING!!! I forgot how much I enjoyed that quiet me time. I spent time on the treadmill, and stair climber. It felt so good to get a good sweat going. Today however my legs are reminding me that it has been a while since we spent time at the gym. I am aiming to get in the gym 2-3 times a week. I would like to say everyday but I know that is unreasonable. With 3 kids, a house, and Hubby to care for doesn't leave a lot of free time. But I am learning to carve some me time out too.

Hopefully I can have a heart to heart with this scale and it will treat me better next week. Keep your fingers crossed. I will be working hard this next week to get back on track and get to where I want to be. See you hopefully on the skinnier side next week!!

8 weeks and diggin the new me!!

Well 2 months in and I am a whole new me.  I have to say Thank you to my sister Amy for putting weight watchers on my radar. It took a few tries to stick but I finally got it. I don't feel like there has been that big of a change in my life but yesterday it kinda hit me. Today was weight in day and the official number is ......... 141.9. Which means I have lost 10 lbs in 8 weeks and can't believe it. It wasn't like pulling teeth to get to this point. I actually have been shocked every time I get on the scale. One of my favorite shows is the Biggest loser, and I always am in awe of the dramatic weight loss that these people go through. I have always thought the only way to get that kind of loss is by having a private chef and a personal trainer. I have had neither on my journey. Success is what you make of it and I am making the best of it.

On top of the weight loss I did my measurements yesterday and again had to pick my jaw up off the floor. To this day I have lost 10.3 inches total. Say what!!!!!! I haven't been to the gym, and other than changing the food I eat, my daily routine hasn't changed much. So to say I was shocked is an understatement. I have noticed that my favorite size 8 jeans are a bit looser and the belt had to go back a notch but 3.5 in from my waist is CRAZY!!! Three inches from my hips say what?!? That explains why my pants don't fit anymore. Guess it's time to slide into my size 6. YEAH!!!!! A size 6 is amazing!!

I don't know what the next week will bring but I am willing to deal with what is thrown my way. This week also our second season for indoor soccer started and I couldn't have been happier to step back on the field. Friday I will be leaving for a road trip with some great girls and can't wait. I will do my best to not undo the work I have already done. However I will not deprive myself and will just eat sensibly. Can't wait to loose another 10 and I will really be a completely different person. I can't wait to see what I will look like when I shed the next 10. Oh and I am now below Piper's prepregnancy weight . Next 10 and I will have dropped Christian's baby weight. I CAN"T WAIT!!!!

See you on the skinnier side and in a size 6.

Rebounding at week 7

After a slow week last week I kinda fell off the wagon. I was trying so hard and not loosing the weight that I thought I was supposed to. I also finally started my period and the hormone swing was horrible. I ate whatever I wanted but not in excess. I stopped when I was full but i ate anything, including candy.( Mmmmmm they were good too!!) To my surprise this morning when I stepped on the scale I saw something unexpected.

My official weight for this week is 143.1 that is a loss of 1.6lbs. As of today I have lost a total of 8.6lbs. I am really excited by this. I will hit my 10lb weight loss goal before Thanksgiving at this rate. I am loving the way I feel and the way I look in clothes now. The plan now is to get back to eating the right way and keep loosing the weight that has been holding me back for 6yrs.

Shopping for winter clothes this year is going to be fun. I no longer have to find things to hide the stuff in the middle that i hated. I can find clothes that are cute and give me a great figure. Look out world here comes one smokin hot MILF!!!!

See you next week hopefully below Piper's prepregnancy weight...

Kinda slow at week 6

I jumped on the scale this morning and was kinda bummed. Thought for sure I would see a big loss this week. My official 6 week weigh in was 144.7. It is still a loss of .4 lbs. I am trying to be OK with that number. I guess what is bugging me is that I weighed on Sat and was down to 144.1 which was a 1lb loss. I have been really good about what I ate. I even skipped a snack last night knowing my weigh in date was today. In the greater scheme of things i am doing great. It was still a loss and not a gain. As of today I have lost a total of 7lbs. I am very proud of that and the fact that no matter what speed bumps come my way I conquer them all. It may be a slow go but it is definitely going.

I have gotten the hang of the point system and actually enjoy the food I am eating. I like finding foods that have a low point value and actually finding myself full after eating them. It has become my challenge to find foods similar to my favorites that fit into my plan and i actually enjoy eating the new choice. When I have done any other diet I have never stuck with it this long. Most of the time the food is crappy and I feel like I am being deprived. I like that if I want some chocolate, pumpkin pie, Ice cream, I can eat it. No one tells me no and they actually encourage you to eat your favorites.

If anyone is looking to loose weight I would definitely recommend Weight Watchers. I see this as a new life style not just a diet i "have" to do. I can't wait for Christmas time and to reveal that I have lost all the weight I was looking to get rid of. I am a lot happier when I step on the scale now. I don't hate shopping for clothes anymore. I love putting on things I haven't worn in a while and realizing how much better I look in it now. I have a way to go but I sure am on the right road now.

As a follow up to the hiccup of last week..... Still haven't seen Aunt Flow yet. It has been 17 days since she was supposed to show up. I haven't taken any more tests. I really dont see the point. After 4 negative tests and a negative blood test I figure what will be will be. If I am indeed pregnant I will figure it out soon enough. If not I should just be happy with not having that unwanted monthly guest. I do have a Dr apt with my OBGYN on the 4th. If I still havent started by then I will go and see what he has to say. He can at least do an ultrasound in the office and that will confirm one way or another if there is a bun in the oven. I secretly am keeping my fingers crossed that there is something growing in there. If not well there's always next month.......

See you next week a little bit lighter....

5 weeks and a Hiccup.

Yesterday was 5 weeks on Weight Watchers. After not loosing any weight last week I decided i wasn't going to give in and keep on keeping on. So I left last week in the past and kept my head pointed to the future. It was a pretty good week. My sister Amy and her family came into town for the Pumpkinman Triathlon. Her husband Stacey and Curtis were going to be competing in he race. I got to spend a lot of great time with my family which always keeps me happy. But with family time comes yummy food..... I tried to be as good as I could but didn't say no to everything. I am a lucky girl to have such an amazing family. We spent most of Saturday out watching Stacey and Curtis swim, ride, and run. It was a beautiful morning and I had pretty great company this time around. While watching all these amazing people, young, old, all body types, pushing themselves I was thinking that maybe I should do this too..... Then I saw my husband walk across the finish line and remembered it isn't as easy as it looked. I will stick to soccer!

So weigh in day came and I was eager to jump on the scale to see if it had moved this week. To my surprise it had. My official weight for the week is 145.1. I lost another 1.5 lbs this week. It was reassuring to see that the scale was reflecting the work I was putting in. I am shooting for 2lbs next week but as always I will take whatever loss I get.

The hiccup I mentioned is that I thought there may be a small chance I was knocked up. I am officially 11 days over due for "that time". Most women wouldn't complain that they missed their period but since I went off my birth control in August and we weren't planning another baby right now we were a bit nervous. I have taken 4 home pregnancy tests and all were negative but still no Aunt Flow. I finally called my Doula Naomi and she offered to get me a blood test to get a definite answer. I went yesterday and may I just add that the wait for the results was horrible!!! With playing soccer and drinking this past weekend I just needed to know as soon as possible. I got the call this morning that the test was negative. I think Curtis was a bit more relieved than I was to get that news. Even though I know right now isn't the ideal time for a baby I was hoping that maybe this was God's way of saying it was. So now the question is: do I sit and wait for my body to get it's crap together and start when it's ready or do I go the herbal route and get it started myself.

I have done some research and asked questions regarding this topic.I have had a lot of people help with what herbs are the best to regulate irregular periods. I have also come across people who warn me that it is possible to get a negative result on the blood test and still actually be pregnant. If I did take these herbs I would then most likely loose the baby. HMMMMMMMMM...... What to do what to do?????? One lady said her friend got negative results till her 11th week. Her Dr was trying to get her to take meds to start her period too. If she had she would have lost her twins. I do have a Dr apt on November 4th with my OBGYN. I was going to cancel this but now I might just keep it in case I don't start by then. Maybe he will do an ultrasound and another blood test. I'm sooooooo confused!!!!

Oh well Next week will be here soon enough so I will keep  my eye on the prize and hopefully will be 2 lbs lighter this time next week.

See you on the skinnier side!

One Month In.

Today is weigh in day. This morning before eating or getting my coffee I got up and got on the scale. I got on in hopes of seeing another 2 pounds gone. So what did the scale say you  might ask..... The same as last week. 146.6lbs. I will admit I was a bit disappointed when I saw the number but have to keep reminding myself that it isn't always going to be easy to get this weight off. All day long I have replayed the past week to figure out where I went wrong. There were 2 meals that weren't the best but they weren't that bad. Or so I thought.... I also think I need to be a bit more diligent about the portion sizes I eat. Maybe that is where i am going wrong. Maybe it's time to stop my morning coffee and choose a better breakfast. As I was beating myself up about this I had to try and look on the bright side. At least the scale didn't go up. It's easier to keep losing what you already have than to lose weight you put back on.

I took my measurements when I started weight watchers so i can  have an idea how much my body has changed when I reach my goal. I decided to check them today to see if there has been any change in my body other than what the scale says. To my surprise I have lost in every category. I have lost a total of 6.8inches. The most was off my waist and hips at 2in each. That is very exciting news to me since I really don't see the difference myself. It does however explain why my jeans are fitting a little better these days. So I have taken away a piece of contentment to know that even though the scale didn't read a lower number I actually am changing my body.

In the past when I hit a plateau or gained a little back I would always quit. I figured why am I doing all this work if nothing is going to come of it. Today I have the mind set that as long as I put in the work and stay honest with myself I can conquer this hurdle in my life. Another great thing that has come of this life change is that I am cooking a lot more healthy dinners for the family. I actually enjoy getting in the kitchen and putting dinner together. Anyone who knows me knows this is the BIGGEST milestone so far.

Next week is a new week with a clean slate. I am hoping to show a loss on the scale. I will not give up just because of this wee little bump in the road. I will continue to work hard and get to where i want to be. Now that the weather is getting to be a little less like living in hell I think I will start getting back on my road bike and enjoy the time away from the kids and having my mind cleared for about an hour. See you back here in a week with a little less of me to share ; )

See you on the skinnier side!!

Lookin good at week 3.....

Today started out not so great. I had a dentist apt at 7am to get 2 fillings drilled out and replaced and a crown started. I swear I got beat up worse from the Dentist than I ever have during my soccer games. After that I was not looking forward to stepping on the scale this morning. I didn't feel like i had lost anything this week. This weekend I got spoiled from my Hubby. We didn't have the kids so we ate like kings. I will say I noticed that I got full faster or at least I noticed I was full faster and I didn't clean my plate every time. I guess this plan really is working for me. I can say that I have been very diligent on checking points for food and if I am planning on going out to eat I check on line for the nutrition info to see what is the best choice. I even find myself checking the points on Curtis' food even though he isn't doing weight watchers with me. He has even changed a couple eating habits.

OK so the official weight for today is............146.6

That is a loss of 1.8lbs. I was shooting for 2lbs but i will take my 1.8lbs thank you very much!! I am so glad that the scale keeps heading in the right direction. I feel like this is to easy so the weight shouldn't be coming off so quickly. My oldest sister Amy did weight watchers after having her daughter Emily and had great results and she turned me on to it a couple years ago. I will have to send her a thank you card for planting the seed and allowing it to grow at it's own pace. It may have taken me a couple failed attempts to get this right but better late than never. At this rate I will be where I want to be by Christmas . I think this is going to be the best Christmas ever!! Who could ask for a better Christmas present? I will take a rockin body and a healthy life style any day over a shirt or pair of shoes. Now if I can only figure how to put a bow on this.........

My goal again for next week is a 2 lb loss again. I will keep doing what i'm doing and try to add a little more exercise into the mix too.

See you on the hot and skinny side!!!

Two weeks down and the rest of my life to go......

We just past week 2 and boy oh boy was it a week. Lots of outside stress and lots of good eats. I had 2 soccer games this week and even scored in one of the games. I absolutely love getting out on the field with all the ladies I play with. It is so much fun and sooo mentally therapeutic. Unfortunately my shin splints have reared their ugly head yet again. As I type this I sit with frozen peas, and carrots on my legs. I think I may make a Dr. apt for this since I haven't done any impact exercise for 4 months and they are just as bad. The worst news I could possibly get is that I have to hang up the shin guards and never play soccer again. Being on the field makes me happy and clears my mind. I would spend everyday for hrs on the field if I could. Where getting into the gym everyday is like torture. So I will keep my fingers crossed that this is something that will quickly past so I can get back to enjoying my MA Devils.

OK Back to what I'm here for. Today is weigh in day and the scale read........ 148.4

No change from last week but staying the same is a lot better than the scale going up. I also went out and had Sushi, 3 glasses of champagne, Carne asada and my world famous guacamole, and ate at Chevy's. Not all in the same day that is. So with all that yummy not so healthy food i'm satisfied that there was no change in my weight. My goal for this week is to drop 2 more pounds by being vigilant on what I eat.

I never believed all the talk that stress and not getting enough sleep can stall the weight loss process but after this week i'm starting to think they might be on to something. Bed time for me has been no earlier than 11:30 every night with a few 1am bed times thrown in there. Having kids who are up at 7:30 am no matter what time you put them to bed and a hubby who sets the alarm for 5am so he can get to the gym before work hurt the chance of getting the recommended 8hrs of sleep. On my to do list for the next week I will also add going to bed before 11pm. The stress topic is a little harder to deal with. When it is family that is causing this how do you just ignore it???? I am trying my hardest to live by the belief that it's not my problem there for I should not think about it or let it creep into "my" family life. Certain days are better than others but when it is in your face all the time it's hard to let it slide off. I have begged to move to the other side of the world to get away from all of it but unfortunately Curtis' paycheck comes from here and most likely always will. Damn it!!! So now i'm just begging to move to the other side of town. Let's see if i can make that happen.

Here's to a better week 3 and 2 more pounds lost. See you on the skinnier side!!

One week in....

Well it has been a week into the new life style. It has been pretty easy so far. My goal for the beginning of this change is to learn to eat differently. I have made some amazing meals from Weight watchers. One I will share at the end of this. The kids have really enjoyed the new meals. I have also managed to work my morning coffee into my point system. I also was able to have my favorite wings from Wing Stops on Friday. I see this being a lot more successful than any of those diets that limit what you can eat. I get ice cream at night if i want it. What diet do you know allows that???

Today was weigh in day and drum roll please................... 148.4lbs. In one week of tweaking the food I put in my face I have lost 3lbs. Not to shabby if I do say so myself. Now I need to get my booty to the gym to kick start this weight loss. I have figured that I do have time during the week to go even with all the back and forth driving I get to do. I drop CJ off at 8:45am and don't have to feed Christian lunch till 11:45. Now the only thing to do is get my butt in gear in the morning so I can actually get to the gym. Anyone who knows me knows I am sooooooooooo not a morning person.

The best meal I have made so far was last night. It was Chicken with 40 garlic cloves. It was super easy and oh so very very yummy!! There wasn't a drop of the sauce left over. All 3 kids raved how great it was. We paired it with artichokes and it was a total of 8points on weight watchers. Who knew dieting could taste so darn great. Well that is all for this week check back in next week to see if I continue this down hill slide on the scale.

See you on the Skinnier side!!

Course: light meals
PointsPlus® Value:    8
Servings:  8
Preparation Time:  7 min
Cooking Time:  75 min
Level of Difficulty:  Easy
Don’t let the amount of garlic scare you—slow roasting brings out its natural sweetness.

Ingredients

40 clove(s) garlic clove(s), separated and unpeeled (medium)
4 pound(s) uncooked boneless skinless chicken breast, cut into 8 pieces
1/4 tsp table salt
1/4 tsp black pepper, freshly ground
2 tsp olive oil, extra-virgin
1 cup(s) white wine
1 cup(s) reduced-sodium chicken broth

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F.
  • Place the garlic in a single layer in a small baking dish; spray with nonstick spray (preferably olive-oil spray). Cover tightly with foil and roast 15 minutes. Stir, then cover and roast until the garlic just begins to brown, about 15 minutes. Uncover, then stir and spray with nonstick spray and roast until browned and tender, about 10 minutes longer.
  • Meanwhile, sprinkle the chicken with the salt and pepper. Heat the oil in a large cast-iron or other ovenproof skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook until browned, about 5 minutes on each side. Transfer the chicken to a large plate. Add the wine and broth to the skillet; bring to a boil, scraping any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Add the garlic to the skillet, then add the chicken, nestling the pieces among the garlic cloves.
  • Place the skillet in the oven and roast the chicken until an instant-read thermometer inserted in a thigh registers 180°F, about 20 minutes. Lift the chicken from the broth mixture in the skillet and transfer to a serving dish; cover with foil and keep warm. Transfer 12 of the garlic cloves to a fine sieve. Arrange the remaining garlic around chicken. With a rubber spatula, press the reserved garlic through the sieve into a bowl; discard the skins. Whisk pressed garlic paste into the broth mixture in the skillet; bring to a simmer. Serve the chicken with the roasted garlic and the sauce. Yields piece chicken, about 3 cloves roasted garlic, and 2 tablespoons sauce per serving.

Notes

  • To serve, squeeze the garlic from the roasted cloves onto slices of crusty baguette and dunk into the sauce. A 1-ounce chunk of French baguette will increase the PointsPlus™ values by 2.

A new me the smart and safe way...

I have started playing indoor soccer with some girls from high school and my sister Amanda. I am so excited to play every Monday. Even though we are a proud 0-3 it is still so much fun. I have found that this extra 30 lbs that I have been rockin has kept me from being my best. There are some other things that I have noticed this weight has had an affect on too. I was trying to decide how to go about taking this off. I thought about going back on the 17 day diet. I had had some great short term weight loss with it but nothing that lasted. Truthfully I can not stick to a super strict diet. I have tried and failed every time. So I am going to do this the smart, slow, and permanent way.

Today starts my daily log of weight, food and weekly struggles. I will be completely honest with weight and food for the week. This hopefully will keep me accountable for my decisions. I cant wait to get to my goal weight and share it with everyone. I hope to inspire those who are in the same boat to stick with it. It will be hard to change 32 years of bad eating habits but I am going to do it slowly and the smart way.

I have figured that with my taxi service back and forth to school that I can squeeze in gym time after dropping off Cj. I can be home in time for Christian to eat lunch and to get to school on time. So this is my goal : 3-5 days a week to hit the gym for an hour, eat less every day, and make better choices when eating. I am not going to set a time table to this weight loss goal so that I don't become discouraged if it doesn't happen in that time. All I am going to set is the total weight I want to lose.

I hope to loose 30lbs but will be thrilled with anything over 20. I am starting at 151.7 lbs as of today. When I got pregnant with CJ i was 122lbs. I would LOVE to see that again on the scale but was thrilled when I was 132 lbs. I even wore a bikini at 132 lbs. I just want to be healthy and comfortable in my clothes. So wish me luck on this journey and I will keep you posted every Wed how the week has gone,

See you on the skinnier side!!

Dang monkey wrenches......

It's weird how in your own head you believe things are going one way and all of a sudden you get smacked upside the head with reality. That happened to me last night. It has been weighing on my heart HEAVILY since then.

Curtis and I went to dinner together with no kids like we usually do once a week. We have an amazing niece that is willing to watch out kids whenever we need her. ( Carlie you are the best!!!) The boys are with Nanny again. (Thank you Nanny for always loving my kids and wanting to spend time with them.) Anyways, we were talking about the future and I brought up when are we going to try for #4? Curtis sat there for a minute and said he didn't know if he wanted anymore. My heart sunk to my feet. Ever since Piper was born I had my heart set on another baby. Whether it be a little Bodie Wyatt, or another little princess, but at least one more. I told him I didn't feel like I was done. He said he thought I was good with three since I seemed to be overwhelmed a lot. I ended the conversation there and went to bed thinking that I would never get to feel another baby growing and moving in my belly again. I honestly was soooo devastated.

Today I asked if he wanted to go to lunch so i could try and get into his head a little. I was so nervous thinking he was really really sure we were done. It took all the way through lunch for me to get the courage to ask when he decided he didn't want another baby. Luckily he isn't 100% sure. Thank God for that!!! He is just really concerned with the economy and if adding a baby right now really is the smartest thing to do. I agreed that it wouldn't be smart to get pregnant any time in the near future. However i din't want it taken off the table completely. He said he still goes back and forth thinking having another baby would be great but he has to look at the bigger picture.

We have been very lucky that with the economic times being so dreadful right now he has been able to keep his job. He has great job security and he hasn't had to take a hit to his paycheck like so many have either. For that I am so very very greatful. The only negative we have from all this is our house. We owe more than what it's worth just like every other person in this town. But we can afford our home and all the bills that go along with it. We do have a lot of credit card debt right now from moving back to our house and that makes him weary also. I know i need to tighten my belt and get this paid down. I need to stop spending like i'm a spoiled child. Most of what I buy is for my kids though. I just want them to have whatever they want no matter what. I understand that they have enough stuff to keep them busy and i just need to step back and stop spoiling those darn cutie pies. I'm sure if I show Curtis that I can pay down our debt and start saving then he would be a little more flexible with having baby#4.

One part that I cant fix by myself is the size of our house. I know most people my parents age laugh when I say I need more room for 4 kids. (Nanna) I'm sure I could make it work here but I can't guarantee how happy I would be about it. If this is what we have and there's no way around it then so be it we will make it work. We do have an option that is very real and tangible without spending more money or having to walk away from this house. My parents have offered to swap houses with us. They have a 4 bedroom house just a block away from us. They say they don't need all that space since it's just the 2 of them and they spend every free moment at the cabin. This is definatly something I think about a lot.

I can't change the economy but I can fix our debt. So my goal is to figure out how to pay down our debt as quickly as possible. Maybe just maybe that will give my wonderful hubby a little more security in our financial state and ease his worries of the financial stress from adding another mouth to feed. I hope I don't have to be done with baby making but if I am I will cherish my 3 healthy, beautiful, smart kids. I thank God for allowing me to be their Mom every day. So for right now we are at a wait and see pattern.

I'm learning to love me if you dont like it F off!!

I have been working out very hard at the gym for 2 weeks now and feeling pretty darn good about myself. I have days where i have what I like to call body envy when I see other girls at the gym. I guess it's a good thing since that keeps me motivated to try and get into that kind of shape. However I have to be realistic I'm sure half of these skinny and muscular girls haven't had 3 kids. I know before I had kids I had a rockin body too. I am realizing that i wouldn't trade in the mommy pouch I have or the cellulite on my thighs for the 3 beautiful miracles I'm lucky enough to call my kids. My kids love me no matter what size my jeans are. They don't judge me when my skinny jeans wont zip. They could care less if I'm in a bikini or a moo moo as long as I'm in the water playing with them. They love me when I'm in my jammies with no makeup and my hair pulled up in a bun. They love me when I'm half asleep in bed with morning breath as long as they can be right next to me snuggling. I will not stop going to the gym and become complacent with where I'm at but i have figured out that my happiness is not going to come from fitting into size 0 jeans, or from having a flat tummy. My happiness is going to come from the unconditional love my Husband and Kids give me, and from me being happy with me.

I know there is no way that my body will ever look like it did before kids but I will still try to improve what I can and become happy with what I cant. I may even dare to put on a bikini again and be happy with what I see looking back at me in the mirror. If you see me and see the cellulite on my thighs or the little pouch where my kids grew don't judge me, smile and know all that came because I'm a mom and sometimes put my kids before my own needs. If you don't like what you see look the other way. I won't go to drastic measures to make my body appealing to you. I have one person to make happy and that's me! Making my husband and Kids happy is just icing on the cake.

It's all about me!!

I finally decided to stop making excuses why I couldn't go to the gym. I came up with a lot of reasons why I should instead. I was always so sure Piper wouldn't go to the day care since she was so attached to me and afraid of strangers. Boy was I ever wrong about that. Curtis made me see that what would be the harm taking her and just seeing if she would be OK. So 2 Friday's ago I sucked it up and went. She walked right in with Christian and had a blast. She was having so much fun that when the lady said it was time to go she wouldn't leave. They had to physically bring her to me.

This is going on my second week at the gym and I feel great. I absolutely enjoy the hour or so that i get to myself. I can turn up my music and forget about everyone and everything. Our new morning routine is working out so well. We get up get CJ to school and come home and get dressed. We are out the door by 10am and at the gym by 10:30. I get a good workout in then it's time to come home and have lunch and chill until Cj gets out of school. I can't wait to see the results of my decision to put me first again. I forgot how much I love working out and getting a good sweat going. More good things are to come I can see it!!

How I became a Mommy 3 times.

My first son was born 7 years ago and it was something I had waited all my life for. On Sept 10th my OBGYN induced me 3 days before my due date. At 4pm I was hooked up to all the bells and whistles that come with a hospital birth. My water was broke and the pitocin was started. We had a lot of people waiting with us for our son's arrival . After asking for staydol for the pain I have no memory of a big part of my labor. I finally got an epidural and by 10 I was fully dilated. I pushed for 2 hrs and the nurses had used an entire bottle of baby wash but he was posterior and wouldn't budge. He wasn't able to get in a good position since i was kept on my back for the entire labor and pushing phase. Around 2am the insisted on a Cesarean delivery. I was exhausted and went with the flow. Charles Curtis Van Norman VI was born before 3am and was healthy. We were elated. Unfortunately the hospital wouldn't allow my husband to go into the nursery with my son so he had to look through the window of the nursery like all the other family members. Then when it was time for me to go to my room they wouldn't allow my husband to stay with me since I didn't have a private room. So after an emotionally and physically exhausting day I was left by myself still numb from the spinal. Around 5am the nurse wheeled my son in and pointed out where the formula and diapers were and left the room. I sat dumbfounded. I was still unable to move, still had a catheter in, and was by myself. They really thought I was going to be able to take care of him right then?? Fortunately we did get a room to ourselves later that day and we spent the rest of our time in the hospital falling in love with our son. I did have some postpartum issues after the birth because he didn't arrive the way he was supposed to and the way I had planned.

Two years later we decided to get pregnant again. After a lot of research on VBAC's I figured I would go to a different Dr and a different hospital for this delivery. So from day one at the Dr's office I begged for a VBAC. I begged all the way up to the day he set my repeat Cesarean date. I gave in figuring i had no choice otherwise. This time it was just going to be my husband and I  since we had a 3 ring circus at my first son's birth. January 12th early in the morning we went into the hospital very excited to meet the newest member to our family. I should have known as soon as we got there that it was not going to turn out well for us. They didn't have a room for us so we got stuck in what I labeled "The Closet". It was just big enough for a bed and a chair. They finally walked me back to the OR where I went in by myself to get the spinal. It took 8 tries to get it placed and after it was secure I became so violently ill. I was vomiting the entire operation and then became itchy all over. After my son was born they showed him to me then took him away. My husband was able to go with him this time but came back to check on me since I was so ill. I finally got back to my room after the surgery and continued to be sick. I couldn't keep water down. It was a couple hrs after the delivery when I started to ask for my son and no one would bring him into me. My husband went to the nursery to check on him. When the nurse came to the door her response was "Oh didn't the Nurse tell you?". My husband's heart sank he thought he had died. Turned out he was very very sick and was in the level 2 nursery. I met my son when I was wheeled into the Nursery to sign a waver giving the Dr permission to put a needle in my son's chest to remove the air that was trapped and so his collapsed lung could re inflate. I stood there bleeding on the floor and all I could get out before they made me leave was "Hi I'm you Mommy". I was wheeled out and put back into my room to try and understand what just happened. Around 5pm my son was brought into my room in an isolate on top of a gurney. He was being transported to a different hospital that had a level 1 NICU. I had to wait 2 days to leave the hospital and go see my son. My Dr didn't even know what was going on. He asked where my son was when he came in to do rounds. He didn't believe us when we told him what was going on. The hardest part of that stay was listening to the babies cry in their mom's room and my baby was nowhere around. I was finally able to leave the hospital with staples still in the incision. My son spent the next 3 weeks in the NICU. He was on a ventilator for 10 days and had 6 different chest tubes placed. He ended up with a pneumothorax (a hole) in his right lung. It was caused from him inhaling blood during the surgery. I wasn't able to hold my son for 2 weeks and was never able to nurse him since he had a feeding tube placed while being treated for the pneumothoraxmeds for the first year of his life for that and we had many many Dr's apt's to make sure their was no further damage from being on the vent for so long. He has turned out to be an amazing, loving, free spirited child. He lights up the room with his smile and his laugh is contagious. He is 5 now and getting ready for Kindergarten. We are lucky that he has no lasting health issues.

After Christian's birth and the chaos that followed I did alot more research. My husband and I decided we would never put another baby through that so we had to find another way. We got pregnant with my daughter 3 years later and decided to see a Midwife. The pregnancy was great and we were planning a home birth. We were really looking forward to a different outcome than we had gotten from the first two. I was due DEC 27th. The day came and went and finally on Dec 31st i started having contractions. I truly didn't believe it was the real deal since it had been so long. I hesitated to call my midwife but by 5pm that day I kinda figured it was the real deal. We went to bed since the surges weren't to strong or lasting to long. Close to midnight I called my Doula Naomi to come over to help me. She showed up at my house at midnight right when the fireworks were going off over the Las Vegas strip. She sat for a while but figured it would be a while and asked if i wanted her to stay. I said no that i would call if anything changed. About an hour or so later I couldn't get on top of the surges and my husband was sound asleep. I called Naomi and my midwife Jill. The labor tub showed up and was filled and my Sister's and Mom showed up also. I stayed in my room either on the birthing ball, sitting on the rocking chair, or in the tub. Time just flew by and i was handling the surges pretty easily. Then transition came and things got a little intense. My Midwife and Doula were fantastic at keeping me going and focused on what I was fighting for. Finally it was time to push. I was in the tub with my husband, sisters, sister-in-law, mother-in-law, Midwife, and Doula as I started to push. Twenty six minutes later my Daughter arrived in a very calm loving and warm environment. She was lifted out of the water and into my arms. It was the most amazing and intense moment of my life. I was in love instantly. I took a quick shower after my Midwife took her to do the normal newborn check. I crawled into bed and my daughter was placed in my arms and was never taken again. My husband climbed in bed with us and shortly after Piper's arrival my boys came home to meet their baby sister. They both fell madly in love with her. It took 18 hrs of labor and 26 min of pushing for our hearts to be healed from the previous birth. We are a stronger family because of our birth journey's. I love all my kids equally and thank them all for shaping me into the mom that I am and teaching me the lesson's I needed to learn through each one of their birth's. When we have our fourth and final baby we will have another home birth and I'm sure we will have another great story to share.
